Part of our buying guide: Gifts for a Nintendo Switch 2 Owner: Storage, Controllers and What to Check First
Our Take
The Switch 2 keeps the original Switch idea, a handheld that docks to a TV, and upgrades nearly every part. Nintendo lists a 7.9-inch 1920×1080 LCD touch screen with HDR10 and variable refresh up to 120 Hz, a custom NVIDIA processor, 256 GB of internal storage (part of it reserved for the system) and up to 4K at 60 fps on a TV through the dock. The game card slot takes both Switch 2 and original Switch cards, which matters if you already have a library. Two practical points: extra storage needs a microSD Express card, because ordinary microSD cards can only be used to copy screenshots and videos, and battery life is about 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game, by Nintendo's estimate. It weighs about 1.18 pounds with the Joy-Con 2 controllers attached. We haven't tested it ourselves. Pick it if you want Nintendo's new games and a console that works both on the sofa and on the go; if you already own an original Switch and mostly play older games, you may not need to upgrade yet.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It
It's the console to buy if you want Nintendo's new games or a sharper, faster handheld. Most original Switch games and your account carry over, so upgrading doesn't mean starting again. Budget for a microSD Express card if 256 GB won't hold your library.
Before You Buy
- Check that "Console Only" or the bundle you want is selected
- Check that the seller is Amazon.com
- Plan for a microSD Express card if you'll install many games
