PlayStation DualSense Controller (Midnight Black)

Sony's standard PS5 controller in Midnight Black. Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are the reason to pick it for PS5 games, and it also pairs with PC, Mac and phones over USB-C or Bluetooth.

Quick verdict

Best for:
A second PS5 controller.
Watch out:
No cable in the box.

Our Take

The DualSense is the controller most PS5 owners should buy as a second pad or a replacement. PlayStation lists haptic feedback from dual actuators, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, a touch pad, motion sensors and a rechargeable battery with a USB-C port. Those PS5 features only work in games that support them, and PlayStation notes that on PC they may need a USB connection. A cable isn't in the box. The DualSense Edge adds back buttons and swappable sticks for far more money, and most players don't need it. We haven't tested it ourselves. One thing to check: the Amazon buy box was held by a third-party seller when we looked, while Amazon.com was among the new offers.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

If you play on PS5, this is the controller to add for a second player or to replace a worn one. You get the same haptics and adaptive triggers as the pad in the box, and it doubles as a controller for PC and phones. Skip the pricier Edge unless you want back buttons.

Before You Buy

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work on PC?

Yes. PlayStation says it connects to PC, Mac, Android and iOS by USB-C or Bluetooth. Haptics and adaptive triggers on PC may need a USB connection.

Is a charging cable included?

No. PlayStation says the cable isn't included; the one that came with the PS5 works.

Should I get the DualSense Edge instead?

Only if you want back buttons, remappable controls and swappable sticks. For most players the standard DualSense is enough.
