Philips Hue Dimmer Switch (Latest Model)
A battery-powered wall switch for Hue lights: on/off, brighter, dimmer and a Hue button. The remote lifts off its wall plate, and it works without Wi-Fi.
Quick verdict
Yes, if you have Philips Hue lights and want a normal switch on the wall for everyone in the house. The Hue Dimmer Switch is a battery-powered remote on a wall plate with on/off, brighter, dimmer and Hue buttons, and it works without Wi-Fi or a phone. Customizing the buttons needs a Hue Bridge, and it doesn't stop people turning off the original wall switch.
- Best for:
- A real wall switch for Hue lights.
- Watch out:

Our Take
Smart bulbs have one everyday weakness: someone flips the wall switch off and the app can't reach them. Hue's Dimmer Switch fixes that with a small remote on a wall plate that you stick or screw next to the old switch. Hue lists an on/off button, brighter and dimmer buttons, and a Hue button for scenes or time-of-day light. The remote lifts off the plate and also sticks to any magnetic surface. It runs on an included CR2032 coin battery and talks to the lights over Zigbee, so it doesn't need Wi-Fi. With a Hue Bridge one switch can control up to 50 lights, and you can change what each button does in the Hue app; without a bridge it pairs directly with up to 10 lights, but its settings can't be changed. It's indoor-only and doesn't replace or rewire your existing switch. Hue lists a 2-year warranty. We haven't tested it ourselves.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It
If you have Hue bulbs, this is the simplest way to give everyone in the house a normal switch on the wall: no wiring, no phone, and it can dim and recall scenes. It's for Hue users; without Hue lights it does nothing. Add a Hue Bridge if you want to change what the buttons do or control more than ten lights.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Hue Dimmer Switch need a Hue Bridge?
No. Hue says it can control up to 10 lights without a bridge, but you can only change its button settings with a bridge, which also raises the limit to 50 lights.
What battery does it use?
A CR2032 coin battery, included. Hue notes the older dimmer used a CR2450.
Does it replace my existing light switch?
No. It mounts on the wall with adhesive or screws next to your existing switch; it doesn't wire into it.
