NOCO GENIUS5 Smart Battery Charger and Maintainer
A compact 5-amp charger that also keeps a parked battery topped up — the right size for cars, motorcycles and mowers that sit for weeks, but slow for big deep-cycle banks.

Our Take
The GENIUS5 is a plug-in charger you clip to a 6V or 12V battery and leave connected. NOCO rates it at 5 amps for batteries up to 120 amp-hours and says it can maintain batteries of any size, which is the job most owners buy it for: keeping a car, motorcycle, boat or mower battery healthy while it sits through winter or between uses. NOCO lists support for lead-acid types (wet, gel, AGM, EFB and maintenance-free) and lithium, protection against short circuits, reverse polarity, overheating and overcharging, an IP65 rating, and a 3-year limited warranty. It's small (about 4.6 × 2.9 × 1.9 inches, 1.5 lb), with roughly 6.4 feet of DC cable. The limits are the flip side of the size. At 5 amps a large deep-cycle or RV battery bank takes a long time to recharge, and NOCO's own range puts that job on the 10-amp GENIUS10. It also isn't a jump starter: it can't start a car with a dead battery on the spot. We haven't tested charge times ourselves. Pick it if you want a set-and-forget maintainer that can also recharge an ordinary car battery overnight.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It
If a car, motorcycle or mower sits for weeks, a maintainer that keeps the battery topped up is cheaper than a new battery or a jump. The GENIUS5 is small, does that job automatically, and has independent reviews behind it. It's too slow for big deep-cycle banks.
Before You Buy
- Check your battery's voltage (6V or 12V) and type
- Decide whether you need a maintainer or a jump starter
- Check that the seller is Amazon.com or NOCO
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I leave it connected all winter?
That's the main use NOCO markets it for: it's sold as a charger and battery maintainer meant to stay connected. Check the battery and connections from time to time.
Will it jump-start my car?
No. It recharges the battery over hours. To start a car immediately, you need a jump starter or jumper cables.
Does it work with lithium batteries?
NOCO lists lithium among the supported chemistries, alongside wet, gel, AGM and other lead-acid types. Check your battery's voltage and type before charging.
