Our Take

A dedicated GPS still makes sense if your car has no built-in navigation, you drive where phone signal drops, or you'd rather keep your phone free. The DriveSmart 76 has a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen. Garmin lists voice-activated navigation ("OK, Garmin"), hands-free calls and driver alerts. Live traffic, weather and fuel prices need the free Garmin Drive app on a paired phone; without the phone you still get offline maps and routing. Maps update over Wi-Fi. It runs on car power through the included cable. The 76 sits between the 6-inch 66 and the 8-inch 86. We haven't tested it ourselves. If your car has Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you may not need it.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

If your car has no built-in navigation and you don't want your phone doing the job, this gives you a big, clear screen, voice commands and maps that work without signal. Live traffic comes free through the Garmin app on your phone. If your car already has CarPlay or Android Auto, you probably don't need one.
