Our Take

If you brew with a V60, AeroPress, French press or drip machine, the grinder matters as much as the brewer. Blade grinders chop beans unevenly; burr grinders crush them to a consistent size, so the coffee tastes less bitter and less sour at once. The Encore is Baratza's entry burr grinder. Baratza lists 40 mm conical steel burrs, a DC motor, 40 grind settings you set by twisting the hopper, a 300 g bean hopper, a 120 g grounds bin and a one-year warranty. Baratza says it reaches espresso-fine, but if espresso is your main drink, Baratza sells the Encore ESP for that. Amazon's rating is a modest 4.1 stars, lower than many products here. We haven't tested it ourselves.
