Our Take

The C615F Kit combines three things that usually come separately: a battery camera, a floodlight and a solar panel. TP-Link lists 2K (2304 × 1296) video, a 360° pan with automatic tracking, an 800-lumen 4000K floodlight you can set to come on with motion or manually, color night vision, AI detection of people, pets and vehicles, two-way audio and a 97 dB siren. The included Tapo A201 panel is the main power source: TP-Link says 45 minutes of direct sun a day keeps it running under its lab conditions, and rates the battery at up to 140 days without sun at five minutes of use a day. Camera and panel are rated IP65. Recordings go to a microSD card up to 512 GB (not included) or to Tapo Care cloud storage, which is a subscription. The limits: it connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, TP-Link lists Alexa and Google Assistant but not Matter or Apple Home, automatic 360° scans are limited per day, and TP-Link's operating range tops out at 113°F, which matters in very hot climates. Our photo shows a store display unit. We haven't tested it ourselves.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

If you want to watch and light a driveway or yard where there's no outlet, the C615F Kit puts a floodlight, a pan/tilt camera and a solar panel in one box, and records locally to microSD without a monthly fee. It suits homes with a sunny mounting spot and a 2.4 GHz network. If you want two views from one camera, Tapo's C645D Kit is the dual-lens option; if the spot is shaded most of the day, a wired camera is the safer choice.
