Our Take

OXO's 11 lb scale solves the most common kitchen-scale annoyance: putting a wide bowl or plate on the platform and no longer being able to see the numbers. The display slides out from under the platform on a short arm, then slides back for storage. OXO lists an 11-pound capacity, a zero (tare) button, a unit button that switches between US and metric, and 0.1-ounce and 1-gram increments, with a stainless steel platform. It's covered by the OXO Better Guarantee. That's enough for baking by weight, portioning meals and weighing coffee beans; it isn't a precision scale for tenths of a gram, so espresso dialers or anyone weighing small amounts of spices may want a jeweler-style scale instead. Cook's Illustrated named OXO's redesigned scale a winner in its digital-scale testing. We haven't tested it ourselves. It costs more than basic flat scales, and listings disagree on the batteries it ships with, so check the listing before you buy.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

If you bake or cook by weight, the frustration with most scales is a bowl that hides the display. OXO's pull-out screen fixes that, and the 11-pound capacity covers a full mixing bowl of dough. It's a step up in price from basic flat scales; if you only weigh small amounts, OXO's 5 lb version or a simple Escali Primo will do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the display pull out?

OXO designed it so a wide bowl or plate on the platform doesn't cover the numbers: you slide the display out to read it and back in to store the scale.

Does it weigh in grams?

Yes. OXO lists 1-gram steps in metric and 0.1-ounce steps in US units, switched with the unit button.

Can I weigh ingredients in a bowl?

Yes. Put the bowl on the scale and press zero; the scale then shows only what you add.
