Our Take

The Wingman is Leatherman's mid-size everyday tool: more tools than the 7-tool Skeletool, but lighter and cheaper than the full-size Wave Plus. Leatherman lists 14 tools: spring-action needlenose and regular pliers, spring-action wire cutters, a wire stripper, a 420HC combo-edge knife, spring-action scissors, a package opener, a 1.5-inch ruler, can and bottle openers, a wood/metal file, and Phillips, medium and small flat screwdrivers. The springs open the pliers and scissors for you, which is easier on the hand during repetitive cutting. The knife opens with one hand and locks, many tools reach from the outside without unfolding the whole tool, and there's a removable pocket clip. Leatherman builds it in Portland, Oregon, and covers it with a 25-year warranty. The limits: there's no saw and no bit driver, the blade is plain 420HC steel rather than a premium steel, and the sheath is sold separately. We haven't tested it ourselves, and we found no recent independent hands-on review. It's a good first multi-tool for home, car or job-site odds and ends.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

For most people, a multi-tool earns its place by doing small jobs: cutting a zip tie, opening a box, tightening a loose screw. The Wingman covers those with spring-loaded pliers and scissors that are easy on the hand, a locking knife and a package opener, without the weight of a full-size tool. Leatherman's 25-year warranty backs it. If you need a saw or bits, step up to the Wave Plus.
