KNIPEX Pliers Wrench 86 03 180 (7-1/4 in.)
Pliers and an adjustable wrench in one tool: smooth, parallel jaws that grip nuts and fittings up to 1-1/2 inches without chewing up chrome or brass.
Quick verdict
Yes, if you turn nuts and fittings of many sizes and don't want to mark chrome or brass. The KNIPEX Pliers Wrench 86 03 180 has smooth, parallel jaws that grip nuts up to 1-1/2 inches (40 mm), and KNIPEX says it multiplies hand force about ten times. Smooth jaws grip round pipe less well than serrated pliers, and it isn't insulated.
- Best for:
- Nuts and chrome fittings, metric or inch.
- Watch out:
- Smooth jaws aren't for round pipe.

Our Take
The pliers wrench does the job of a drawer full of open-end wrenches. You press a button, slide the jaws onto the nut and squeeze; KNIPEX says the mechanism multiplies your hand force about ten times, and the jaws stay parallel, so they hold the flats instead of rounding them. The jaws are smooth, which is the point: KNIPEX designed it to work directly on chrome, brass and plated fittings without marking them, such as bathroom faucets. It also ratchets, so you can loosen or tighten without taking it off the nut. KNIPEX lists 15 adjustment positions, nuts up to 40 mm (1-1/2 in.), 180 mm length and 230 g. The trade-off is grip on round parts: smooth jaws are for flats, so for pipes KNIPEX's serrated Cobra pliers bite better. We haven't tested it ourselves.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It
If you work on faucets, fittings or bolts of mixed sizes, this one tool replaces a set of open-end wrenches and won't scratch chrome or brass. The parallel jaws hold nuts securely without rounding them. It isn't for round pipe; pick the Cobra for that.
