Amazon Echo Dot Max (Graphite)

Amazon's 2025 step up from the Echo Dot: a two-speaker design with nearly 3x the bass of the 2022 Dot, plus a built-in Zigbee, Matter and Thread smart home hub.

Quick verdict

Yes, if you use Alexa and want one speaker that also runs your smart home. The Echo Dot Max has a built-in Zigbee hub, Matter support and a Thread border router, and it sounds fuller than the regular Echo Dot. It plays in mono on its own and is tied to Alexa, so it isn't the hub for an Apple Home or Google Home household.

Best for:
An Alexa speaker that's also a smart home hub.
Watch out:
Mono on its own; tied to Alexa.

Our Take

The Dot Max sits between the small Echo Dot and the bigger Echo speakers. Amazon lists a 0.8-inch tweeter and a 2.5-inch woofer in a two-way mono design, nearly 3x the bass of the Echo Dot (2022 release), and automatic room adaptation. The bigger change for smart homes is the hub: it's a Zigbee hub, a Matter controller and a Thread border router, so many lights, locks and sensors can pair to it without a separate bridge. Amazon's Omnisense sensors (temperature, ambient light, presence detection and tap gestures) can trigger routines, it has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, can extend an existing eero network by up to 1,000 sq ft, and is designed to support Alexa+. A button turns the microphones off, and it comes with a 1-year limited warranty. What to know: it's mono, so stereo needs a second Dot Max; Amazon says Sidewalk is on unless you've turned it off; and eero Built-in only works with an eero network. We haven't tested it ourselves.

Why PriceDropIQ Selected It

If you're starting a smart home with Alexa, the Dot Max can be the hub as well as the speaker: Zigbee, Matter and Thread devices pair to it directly, and it sounds fuller than the regular Dot. It suits bedrooms, kitchens and offices where one speaker runs the room. If you only want timers, weather and casual music, the regular Echo Dot costs less; if your home runs on Apple Home, this isn't the hub for you.
