Our Take
The Diamondback HD sits in the middle of Vortex's binocular range, above the Crossfire HD and below the Viper HD, and the 10x42 is the all-round size most hunters and wildlife watchers start with. Vortex lists 10x magnification, 42 mm objective lenses, a 330-foot field of view at 1,000 yards, 5-foot close focus and a weight of 21.3 oz. The lenses are fully multi-coated with dielectric, phase-corrected prism coatings and an ArmorTek scratch-resistant outer coating, and the body is argon-purged and O-ring sealed for waterproof and fogproof use. The box includes a GlassPak chest harness, neck strap, lens covers and rainguard. The biggest selling point is the warranty: Vortex's unlimited, unconditional lifetime warranty covers damage as well as defects. The trade-offs are eye relief of 15 mm, which can be short if you wear glasses, and independent reviewers note some softening at the edges of the view. We haven't tested optical quality ourselves. Pick it if you want a durable, well-supported 10x42 for hunting season without moving up to premium-glass prices.

- Make sure 10x42 and Green are selected
- Check the seller; Vortex's warranty applies regardless, but prices vary
- If you wear glasses, check whether 15 mm eye relief works for you
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Vortex warranty cover?
Vortex says it will repair or replace the binocular at no charge if it's damaged or defective, however it happened and wherever you bought it. It excludes loss, theft, deliberate damage and cosmetic damage that doesn't affect performance.
Is 10x or 8x better?
10x shows more detail at distance, which suits hunting and open country. 8x gives a wider, steadier view that's easier for birds and close-range use.
Can I use it on a tripod?
Yes. Vortex lists it as tripod-adaptable; you need a separate binocular tripod adapter.
