iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air and iPhone 17: which new iPhone fits you
How Apple's first foldable compares with the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air and iPhone 17 on screen size, weight, cameras, battery and unlocking, what reviewers say about the crease and app support so far, and who should wait.
Updated October 21, 2026
Short answer
Choose iPhone Duo if you want a phone that opens into a 7.6-inch screen for reading, video and two apps side by side, and you accept a heavier phone, Touch ID instead of Face ID and no 4x telephoto camera. Choose iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max for Apple's best camera and the longest battery figures in a regular phone shape. iPhone Air is the lightest and thinnest, with one rear camera, and iPhone 17 covers most needs with two cameras and a 120Hz screen.
At a glance
The products this guide covers, each with its own review.

Watch out: No active cooling for long sustained wireless sessions.
- Anker Nano 5K (5,000mAh) Qi2 Magnetic Power Bank

Watch out: Single port only — not for charging multiple devices at once.
iPhone Duo vs the other new iPhones at a glance

What the foldable gets you
Open, iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch screen, which Apple says is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's. It supports Split View for two apps side by side, and the screen layout changes as you fold, turn or flip the phone.
Closed, the 5.4-inch outer screen has about 90% of the iPhone 18 Pro's screen area, so you can use it like a regular phone. Both screens run at up to 120Hz. Apple says Apple Pencil (USB-C) support on either screen is coming later this year; it isn't available at launch.
What you give up
Weight and thickness: at 254 g, iPhone Duo is slightly heavier than the iPhone 18 Pro Max (249 g) and, closed, 11.3 mm thick against 8.75 mm. Engadget's reviewer found it heavy in a pocket and recommends using it with two hands.
Camera: iPhone Duo has two rear cameras like iPhone 17. It doesn't have the 18 Pro's 4x Telephoto or variable aperture, and Engadget calls the iPhone 18 Pro Apple's best camera.
Unlocking: iPhone Duo uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID. Engadget found it accurate but a little slower to unlock.
Is the crease visible on iPhone Duo?
Apple doesn't describe the crease. Engadget's review says a small dip down the middle of the inner screen shows at some angles and mostly disappears when you look at it straight on; the matte nano-texture finish helps hide it and cuts reflections. The reviewer also warns that this finish is a film that can be peeled off with too much handling.
Do apps work on the folding screen?
Apple's own apps use two-pane layouts on the inner screen. In Engadget's review, many third-party apps weren't adapted yet and showed a phone-shaped layout with empty space at the sides, while some big apps such as Netflix and Instagram already fit the screen. That should improve as developers update their apps; if you depend on one app on the big screen, check reports for that app before buying.
Cases, chargers and power banks for iPhone Duo
A case for any other iPhone won't fit. Apple sells an iPhone Duo Case that wraps both halves and an iPhone Duo Folio with a kickstand; Apple says both work with MagSafe and Qi2 25W chargers. For other brands, buy only a case whose listing names iPhone Duo.
Apple lists MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W, so magnetic chargers and power banks work with it. Closed, iPhone Duo is 84.1 mm wide, narrower than most phones, so check a power bank's size against that before buying.

- It is eSIM-only, so check that your carrier supports eSIM.
- Apple notes water resistance can decrease with normal wear.
Who should get which
- iPhone Duo: you read, watch or work on your phone a lot and would otherwise carry a small tablet, and the weight, Touch ID and a two-camera setup don't bother you.
- iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max: zoom and low-light photos matter most, or battery life (the Pro Max has the longest video playback figure here, up to 45 hours).
- iPhone Air: you want the lightest, thinnest phone and can live with one rear camera and the shortest battery figure of these models.
- iPhone 17: you want two cameras, a 120Hz screen and up to 30 hours of video playback without the Pro or foldable extras.
- Wait: you need Apple Pencil now, or you rely on an app that hasn't been updated for the folding screen.
